Valley Skate & Surf was established in 1976. Mona Fleschler purchased the shop in 1981and made it her own. Having raised two children, she sought out a new challenge, owning her own business. In 1982, after graduating UCLA, her daughter Phyllis (a professional singer by night), became her partner in the business. They both love kids and enjoy skating. They have built up a small store, once with a limited inventory into a hot spot of diverse and extensive quantities of product rivaling the big department stores. Skateboarding, Surfing and Roller Skating are three of the core sports they are committed to, while Rollerblades were added to their collection in 1982. They were one of the first stores on the West Coast to carry Inline skates.

Mona & Phyllis pride themselves in training the best employees. They only hire those who participate in each sport. Each employee is trained to be an expert technician. Phyllis is a certified Rollerblade Technician. Valley Skate & Surf gives “free lifetime service and labor on every skateboard or skate purchased.” Their motto is: “We service what we sell” and “Prices to fit every budget.”

Valley Skate & Surf is proud to have received the California Merchants Safety Association Award for Outstanding Service, Integrity and Dependability, Certificates of Appreciation from the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America for their presentations of Safety Awareness Programs and the 2008 Gold Winner Best Skate Shop presented by The San Fernando Valley News. Valley Skate & Surf contributes to many different organizations in the San Fernando Valley, including private and public schools, churches, synagogues and other philanthropic groups.
